Associate Research Teams

Research is a fundamental part of the Strasbourg Institute of Political Studies. The teaching staff is mainly composed of lecturers who are also researchers engaged in individual or collective research. They all regularly publish scientific works or articles in the most important journals of their respective disciplines.

Research is essential so that students can be taught the latest research developments in each discipline. A large part of Sciences Po Strasbourg’s courses teach research through research, starting in the First Year with an introduction to qualitative and quantitative study techniques. Research is further emphasised in the Fourth Year, when all students are given the opportunity to write a research paper under the supervision of the university's lecturers. Students in their Fifth Year of the Sciences Po Strasbourg Master’s programme may choose to carry out research over the course of the year. Many theses are defended at Sciences-Po Strasbourg in all applicable areas of study.

Sciences-Po Strasbourg supports research through a Research Council, which is responsible for promoting research and links with the research laboratories that host the institute’s lecturers.

IRCM - UR 3399 - Carré Malberg Research Institute

The IRCM has 16 lecturers and nearly 40 doctoral students. Focusing on public law, this team develops its research programmes along two main lines: the first is more theoretical, dealing with the State, the Constitution and fundamental freedoms and the second is more practical, dealing with changes in public economic and financial law. The IRCM’s aims also include cooperation with other research centres within the University of Strasbourg. In particular, it is a member of the research federation “A Changing Europe” (FRU 6703).

LinCS - UMR7069 - Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Cultural Studies

Founded in 2022, the Lab for Interdisciplinary Cultural Studies aims to establish a new paradigm within cultural studies at a national and international level.

Bringing together anthropologists, sociologists and historians of the present time, LinCS develops an interdisciplinary perspective on three major domains of experience whose analytical frameworks must be understood at the intersection of individual experiences and structural forces. The action of these forces is observed over time and at different scales through three main focal points that question, among other things, the relationship to the body, to nature, to otherness and to the norm.

SAGE - UMR 7363 - Society, Stakeholders and Governments in Europe

SAGE takes a fundamentally interdisciplinary approach to its academic research, as does Sciences Po Strasbourg. Its 10 CNRS researchers and 54 university faculty members work in political science, sociology, demography, history of science and technology, environmental law, human rights and social geography. Their work focuses on the same issues, and they share the same empirical perspective of social sciences, using both quantitative and qualitative methods.

Making European Society - MAKErS ITI

MAKErS has been awarded 8 years of funding, to develop an ambitious research programme aimed at redefining the content and methodology used in European studies. At the same time, it is implementing an innovative curriculum on these topics for Master’s students. This ITI also aims to produce knowledge and insights that are useful in guiding decision-makers.

ITIs (Interdisciplinary Thematic Institutes) strive to strengthen links between education and research, between the lecture theatre and the laboratory, and between students and researchers. They are funded by the IdEx investment programme for 4 to 8 years over the period 2021-2028

Objectives:

  • Develop interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Develop the internationalisation of research
  • Make use of big data
