Coming to study at Sciences Po

Welcome to Sciences Po Strasbourg !

Are you currently a student at a university abroad ? Would you like to study in France ? Come and study at Sciences Po Strasbourg for a semester or a year as a visiting student !

Each year, Sciences Po Strasbourg welcomes more than 200 visiting students from more than 30 different countries.

It is possible to join us for a semester or an academic year:

  • as an exchange student if your home university has an exchange agreement with Sciences Po Strasbourg (Erasmus+ agreement or bilateral agreement) or with the University of Strasbourg (exchange agreement for universities outside of Europe only). You must be selected by your home university, and follow the procedure described here.
  • as a non-exchange student (free-mover) if your home university does not have an exchange agreement with Sciences Po Strasbourg nor with the University of Strasbourg.

If your university does not have an exchange with Sciences Po Strasbourg, it can contact us so that we can consider the opportunity for a new collaboration together.

Our course programs

Most visiting students follow the classic program which is synonymous with freedom and flexibility:

  • Each student freely composes their course program.
  • Our courses are offered mainly in French, but we also have a wide range of courses in English. We offer a few courses in German or Spanish each year as well.
  • Our choice of courses is vast and includes a wide range of subjects: political science, international relations, economics, management, law, contemporary history, sociology...  The course catalogue is available here.
  • All courses are eligible for ECTS credits, the number of which varies according to the number of hours of the courses and the amount of individual work expected.
  • Each student chooses, in connection with their home university, the number of courses that suits them (minimum 3 ECTS per semester - maximum 33 ECTS per semester).
  • The language level required to take courses in French is B1 minimum, level B2 being strongly recommended; to take courses in English, the required level is B2.
  • First semester courses take place from mid-September to through December, with exams in January; second semester courses take place from mid-January to the end of April, with exams in May.

Second semester, students have the chance to participate in « European Week » - a week of conferences and discussions on a theme at the heart of European current events and its institutions.

Before each semester, it is possible to take an intensive French language course (free for exchange students) that allows you to consolidate your language skills before your regular classes start and begin discovering Strasbourg.

Visiting students who wish to study exclusively in English, obtain 30 ECTS credits over a semester and focus on European Studies can opt for our integrated program, the Certificate of European Studies.

Like all Sciences Po Strasbourg students, visiting students have the opportunity to seek the support of the Career and Partnership Service in their internship search and to obtain an internship agreement. Sciences Po Strasbourg does not give ECTS credits to students for these internships, but the internships are sometimes recognized by our partner universities as part of the academic record of visiting students.

Living and studying in Strasbourg

Our visiting students can count on the support of Sciences Po Strasbourg, in their administrative procedures and throughout their stay! We have about fifty rooms in university residences reserved for students welcomed as part of an exchange.

The student advisors of the International Student Bureau (two 4th year students with a one-year experience abroad) organize activities, tours, visits, games and parties to allow visiting students to socialize with each other and with local students, to quickly get acquainted with our academic system and to discover Strasbourg and its region. The student advisors also act as a link between the visiting students and the numerous student clubs and organizations at Sciences Po Strasbourg so that everyone can find out which clubs or organizations to get involved in.

Living and studying in Strasbourg means choosing a multicultural city, university city in the heart of Europe, rich in art and culture !
