Visiting students who wish to strengthen their French language skills during their stay at Sciences Po Strasbourg have several options:

Intensive French language course:
An intensive French language course is offered before the start of each semester to international mobility students at Sciences Po Strasbourg. This course is free of charge for exchange students and allows you to strengthen your language skills before classes begin. It is also a chance to start discovering Strasbourg through activities organised after class (campus and city tours, Tarte flambée evenings, etc.).

French as a Foreign Language (FFL) courses:
Students can take French language courses each semester. They are offered from beginner to advanced level.

French-language courses designed for international students:
Students with a sufficient level of French (B1 minimum) are encouraged to take history or political science courses taught in French and designed for international students ("Actualités françaises", "Histoire de la France et de l'Allemagne en Europe", etc.).

Students on exchange at Sciences Po Strasbourg have the opportunity to take part, if they wish, in Europe Week, which takes place at the beginning of Semester 2.

This event, organised for second-year students and visiting students, is held every year at the European Parliament. During the week, students attend lectures given by leading figures in the field of European integration and take part in simulated debates (modelled on Model United Nations) on major issues facing the European institutions.

This unique experience gives international students an exceptional opportunity to have direct contact with the European institutions, deepen their understanding of European politics and compare their views with those of students from diverse backgrounds, all in the prestigious setting of the European Parliament's seat in Strasbourg.

"I volunteered to be vice-chair of a committee during Europe Week. So I gave a speech, proposed amendments and took part in the debates. I was really proud of myself for taking this step to get involved in European politics, and proud of having done something that had scared me a little beforehand."
(Henrietta, University of Bath, United Kingdom)

Sciences Po Strasbourg recognises and applies the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). Each module is assigned a number of ECTS credits based on the number of teaching hours and the expected workload. A full-time university semester represents 30 ECTS credits and an academic year represents 60 ECTS credits. Exchange students may take between 5 and 35 ECTS credits per semester, but we recommend not exceeding 30.

Sciences Po Strasbourg uses the French grading system, which runs from 0 to 20, with 20 being the highest grade. A minimum grade of 10/20 is required for the ECTS credits associated with a module to be awarded. For more details on the grading scale used at Sciences Po Strasbourg, see here.

Assessment methods vary from course to course and are specified at the beginning of the semester. Courses assessed by continuous assessment are evaluated through several graded assignments (minimum of 2) during the semester. All other courses are assessed by exams held after the end of classes. Attendance at all scheduled assessments for the modules you are taking is compulsory.

The conversion of grades into other grading systems is carried out by our partner universities, which may refer to the recommendations available here.

At the end of each semester, once the examination boards have met, an official transcript of records listing all courses taken, the final grade obtained in each subject and the credits earned is sent directly to students and to partner universities. Exchange students (excluding those on the CES programme) do not receive a Sciences Po Strasbourg degree.
